They are currently selling the camera with Lens Kit for $220.00 off MSRP - $679.99.
They are selling the Telephoto lens w/ this Camera Kit for only $58.99 more. Not the best telephoto lens, but for $58.99 gets you out the door. Only the Lens Kit lens has Image Stabilizer.
Shipping is an additional $14.10.

Was there a rebate floating around if you upgrade your old canon DSLR? I can't seem to find it.

How do you figure? In low wind conditions on a tripod (which is my general condition for deep zoom), what would the $548.99 version of this lens w/IS be buying me?

The 70-300mm isn't the same lens with the addition of IS. It's a totally different and far superior lens that happens to have an almost equivalent focal length. It'd be better to save up and get the 55-250mm IS or Sigma 70-300mm or whatever.

The 75-300mm III is widely regarded as Canon's worst lens. It recently won a poll by a large margin.

Agreed. The second lens is pretty poor.

This is still a very good deal; in fact, our local Costco has this deal and this is just a bit sweeter since no tax for me. I will agree that the 75-300 is not a good lens at all...just sell it and apply the meager funds and get the upcoming Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens.

With the current Canon promotion for this lens, the web will be flooded with this lens and you hardly make the $58 back.

Well, a better deal came along. I got an email from Adorama.com, and they are selling this same bundle for $649.95 (after instant rebate). I pulled the trigger at that price. Only weird thing is it rang up at $749.95. So, perhaps there is an error with their website or the e-mail. Their Customer Service is closed until Sunday, so I'll sit and wait. B&HPhoto quotes that they'll buy the lens for $60 in new condition.

So, if I keep the lens, the final cost to me is $649.95+$13(Shipping)-$19.50(Live.com CashBack) = $643.45

If I decide to take the lazy route and sell it to B&H (as opposed to eBay, Craigslist, etc), my final cost would be $583.45 which beats the Dell.com and j&r deals a couple weeks back.

Of course, the BIG if, is if the Adorama e-mail was correct.

Would you have a copy of the email?
I can see the canon us rebate (hxxp://downloads.canon.com/cpr/software/camera/Aug08_EOS_promo.pdf) but is says $100 INSTANT rebate and no more explantions.
Adorama's information is vague as it shows the $100 rebate but does not apply it to the check out price.
So it could be in fact $849 with the instant $100 = $749, however does not show it as well. Odd.
It shows free shipping to me, so, $649 would be a hot deal if it is true.

Adorama claims the e-mail price was a misprint, and they aren't honoring that price. Upon looking up the sale prices of that ad, near half the prices in it didn't match the website. Definitely not feeling good about one of my first experiences with Adorama.

Also, Newegg.com is sold out of the crummy zoom lens now anyway, so that bundle is not available anymore. Upon further research, what I really want is a bundle that comes with the lens kit and the f/1.4 50mm lens or the 75-250mm lens with IS.

The deal is back. I know everyone is crapping on the lens, but you should be able to get $100 on eBay easy. Plus, no tax from Newegg for me and 3% Cash Back from live.

So, for me ~$750 - $100(lens) - $25 (CashBack) = $625

Which is better than the J&R deal for me because they charge tax. Plus, 1 day standard shipping for me

Thanks OP!
