I've said it before and I'll say it again, USB drive manufacturers should provide retailers with read/write speeds for their drives. It's ridiculous that they don't. Would you buy a CPU that you don't know the clock speed for? Of course not.

I'm not a huge fan of usb drives with caps that can be lost, but if this were in the 10+ mb/s write range, I'd definitely go for it. On the other hand, if it's 5 mb/s or less, it's just not worth it.

I already had it linked, but I guess it wasn't obvious enough. I've bolded it and added clear space to make it more obvious.

My bad..it seem like you were referring to rebate here

Rebate form says PNY on it. Does HP own PNY?

Anyway, excellent price. Thanks, OP. Almost jumped on the $25 Kingston deal, but to save $7, this rocks.

No. PNY makes the drives for HP

In actual useage does the time/speed make a real difference?

No, but I also wouldn't expect cpu clock rates from a component that essentially functions as a drive. The real comparison should be hard-drive vs. flash-drive seek, access, and transfer rates.

If you're using it to transfer large files, yes, you'll see a tremendous difference. A 700 mb file will take around 9 minutes to write to a 10 mb/sec drive. For a 5 mb/sec drive, that time doubles. And that 5/10 disparity is not the full gamut of what's on the market right now. I've seen 3 mb drives and drives that exceed 12.

You're basically talking about the difference between a 10 year old ata-33 drive that will drive you bonkers at how slow it writes and a reasonably fast sata-150. Not many drives are 3, but unless you can see the specs, you never know.

I concur. Anyone have any expearience with the speed of this drive. Work gave me a drive that literally took 5 times longer to transfer a file than my personal drive and then I lost my personal drive
